Shawn Soares, who had been working as the clean energy and climate justice policy manager at the Virginia Conservation Network, died on May 4, when a driver who had been involved in a crash drove up onto the sidewalk and truck him in Richmond, according to WTVR6.

Services for Soares, of Richmond, will be held in Loudoun County.

Soares was born in India but moved to the U.S. in 2005, eventually settling in Virginia in 2010, his obituary says. He began working for Congressman Donald E. McEachin, and later as a legislative aide to Del. Suhas Subramanyam.

He served as the youngest person in Gov. Ralph Northam’s administration when he was just 24 years old, worked for McEachin once more before landing his role at the VCN.

Meanwhile, condolences poured in on social media.
